Instagram released in June 2018a new sticker that allows you to put a song on Instagram Stories. When added, you can choose the sound from your own social network library as the background sound for videos in Stories.
However, there are still many people couldn’t find this music sticker when posting a story on Instagram. This is because this feature is only available in the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, France, and Germany. Those who are in one of these countries may still find the music sticker missing because their network is not located in such supported countries. Luckily, no matter where you are, you can add music on Instagram Stories with or without a music sticker.
As mentioned, the Instagram music sticker is only available in some countries due to copyright issues. If you cannot find the music sticker on Instagram, then you can use a VPN to work this around. Be aware that you need to make sure your IP address is the available country. After that, you can follow the steps below to put a song on Instagram Story.
Step 1. Open the Instagram Stories camera and take a photo, or choose an image from your library to post. Then tap on the stickers button and select the "Music" sticker.
Step 2. Now choose the song you want to insert in the post. They will have three tabs: Popular, Moods and Genres. Tap one of them or search for the song in the top bar;Tap the play button on the right to hear it.
Step 3. You can use up to 15 seconds of the song, which is the time limit of a Stories post. To select the part of the song, tap on the current tempo just below the white rectangle, select the desired length and tap "Finish";
Step 4. After making the desired adjustments, tap "Finish" again, this time in the upper right corner of the screen. The name of the song, cover art and artist or band will appear on a sticker. You can also tap on it to change the style.
Step 5. Finally, you can tap "Your Story" to add the photo directly to your story, or "Next" to send it to specific friends via Instagram Direct.
Anyone who watches your Stories will automatically hear the song and see more information by tapping the sticker. Personalized sticker is a great way to grow Instagram followers and likes.
A few music streaming services like Spotify and Pandora, allow you to share music from their app to Instagram story directly and your followers can click on it to play the track on the corresponding music app. Let’s take Spotify as an example to show you how it works.
Step 1. Open Spotify on Android or iPhone and tap the three dots (...) next to the song you want to add to Instagram Stories;
Step 2. Tap Share and select the Instagram Stories option. On iPhone, you may see the warning "Spotify" wants to open "Instagram" and tap on Open to continue.
Step 3. Within Instagram app, the album cover, song name, and artist name will appear in the story, along with a custom background. Now, you can move and resize the music however you want. You can also add stickers, draw or write something.
Step 4. When you finish customizing the story, tap “Send to” to publish your story.
After that, the music you shared will be available in your story. The cool thing is that it comes with a Spotify button just below your name, so your followers can open the track directly in the music streaming app.

Step 1. Launch Music app like Spotify or Deezer on your mobile phone and play the song you like.
Step 2. Open Instagram app and tap on the camera icon to create a story. Press and hold the shutter button to start recording the video while background music is playing.

The function to add a music background to video recordings is initially available only in the iPhone ( iOS ) version of the app and later it also reaches to Android users.
Many people who are using Apple Music also want to share songs from Apple Music to Instagram stories. However, when you try to do that, you will receive an error. Apple may fix this error in the future and allow you to share music to Instagram directly. Right now, you can still use the Shortcuts app to share songs from Apple Music to Instagram.
